Anyone who runs a marathon can agree that it is like going on a pilgrimage or a war. It looms large with determination and zeal. As it is in war, the greatest victory is not the conquest of a competitor but the victory over self. And just like it is when going on a pilgrimage, a marathon is a journey taken alone even when surrounded by so many people. One has to define their reason and use that to propel them against great human limits. It is a great test of what one can achieve if they pack up enough training and focus on their goal which is ultimately to finish their race. Isn’t it from running countless marathons that the great marathoner Eliud Kipchoge says that, “no human is limited?”
Outside competition, there exist other impactful reasons why individuals and corporations take on marathons. To be part of a greater good. To influence social change in their little ways to a bigger collective. The motivation ranges from bridging gaps in the health sectors to supporting education for the most vulnerable in society to combating climate change. If you look around keen enough, you will always find a way to run a marathon.
In the 2024 edition of the Nairobi City Marathon, Admedia Communications was ably represented by the triad of our foremost “marathoners” Davis Ndolo, Keleen Kihige, and Ian Muhanji all taking the ten-kilometer race like a piece of pie. The marathon, now in its third edition, was themed around challenging one’s limits and hitting new personal best. Our three representatives held up their medals with great pride—as many marathoners would—at the Nyayo Stadium finish line as they posed for photos. We congratulate them for beating bodily and mental limitations to be feted as finishers and Davis Ndolo for hitting his new personal best of running the ten-kilometer race in under one hour. It is the epitome of success to surmount whatever challenge that comes your way with grace, never stopping midway and in the end, looking back with pride and acknowledging your efforts.
Conveniently, the ten-kilometer race happens on the Nairobi Express Way. Since conceptualization, we have supported The Nairobi Express Way in the launch, communication, PR, and digital marketing. Seeing members of our team use the Nairobi Expressway for the marathon is exciting. It is like watching a progressive cascade from birth to maturity. Interacting with the results of our work is always a moment to be proud of. When we say #WeGotYou, this is what we mean. We transform your ideas into tangible and impressionable results.
When they said that all work without play makes Jack a dull boy, we took that a little bit more seriously. We encourage our team members to incorporate fun into our work by stepping out of the work environment and breathing a little. Besides killing monotony and work-related fatigue, activities such as the Nairobi City Marathon can help achieve better mental and physical health, build better working relationships, and help individuals work towards achieving corporate goals more easily. Once again, congratulations to Davis, Keleen, and Ian.
