How SICPA is transforming water access at Muthetheni Health Centre (10)

In the arid landscape of Muthetheni in Machakos County, where water scarcity is part of daily life, access to clean water is not just a basic need – it’s a lifeline.

For years, Muthetheni Health Centre, the area’s primary public facility, operated under the weight of a water crisis, with staff often relying on vendors or patients’ families to bring water in jerricans.

In 2024, that reality began to change, thanks to the Muthetheni Rainwater Harvesting Project, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by SICPA, a global leader in security inks and traceability solutions.

The project aimed to provide sustainable, long-term water access through the installation of two 10,000-litre rainwater harvesting tanks, an automated electric pump system, and hot water showers – the first in the area. The initiative directly supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6 and 3 by ensuring access to clean water, improving hygiene standards, and enhancing maternal and newborn care services.

Admedia Communications played a key role in supporting the successful rollout of this impactful initiative. We were responsible for strategic media engagement and management, documenting the project through videography and photography, content development including a press release and speech for SICPA’s General Manager, and media invitation and management to ensure broad coverage. Our work helped shape the narrative around the project and amplify its significance to both local communities and national audiences.

The project was officially handed over to the community on 25 July 2025, during a well-attended ceremony that brought together county health officials, local leaders, and residents.

It stands as a powerful example of how public needs, when matched with private sector commitment and expert communications support, can lead to lasting change in underserved communities.
